Every so often, it’s a good idea to have your water heater flushed out. This is due to an accumulation of sediment in the bottom of the water heater from the water that flows through it. If you have a problem with especially hard water, this buildup will happen a lot faster. This is especially problematic with gas water heaters, which heat water from underneath the tank using a flame. If the sediment buildup gets high enough, it can prevent the flame from transferring as much heat to the water and decrease the overall effectiveness of the heater.
Flushing the sediment is as simple as opening a valve and allowing the water to run out of the tank. This will start to purge the tank of any sediment buildup present in it.
