Forced air systems, like heaters and air conditioners, are great ways to keep yourself comfortable during the temperature extremes of the hot and cold seasons. While these systems are ideal for maintaining a temperate climate in your home, they do have some unfortunate side effects. Using a forced air system for an extended period of time tends to make the air in your home stale and can consume a large amount of energy. While this is no reason to stop using those systems, it is reason to consider solutions for those problems. One of the best solutions is a heat recovery ventilator. Read on to find out more about heat recovery ventilators, and why you should consider using one in your home or office.
Green Planet Solutions Corp provides heat recovery ventilators in Wilkes–Barre, PA and the surrounding areas.
What is a Heat Recovery Ventilator?
A heat recovery ventilator is a device designed to mitigate some of the flaws of a forced air system’s use in a modern home or office. Modern buildings are designed to be as well–insulated as possible, in order to improve the efficiency of the HVAC systems within. Without proper insulation, a heater or air conditioner would be fighting a constant uphill battle against the outside environment. Though proper insulation is a good thing, however, it also happens to stifle a lot of the airflow between the building and the outdoors. This leads to the air inside becoming stale very easily, especially when a forced air system is in use. Normally, when you need fresh air you open a window. That’s hardly a good idea when it’s very cold or very warm outside, though. That’s what the heat recovery ventilator is for.
The heat recovery ventilator, or HRV, is essentially a heat exchanger between the indoor air and the outdoor air. It is constantly venting indoor air outside, while taking outside air into the building. As the air flows enter the ventilator, they pass through a heat exchanger. This causes the outside air to adjust to a temperature much closer to that of the air inside. As a result, the building can receive a constant flow of fresh air without ruining the climate–controlled environment.
Why You Should Consider Installing an HRV System
If you’re not sure about installing an HRV system, consider the advantages. You are certainly going to have days and nights where you want to run your heater or air conditioner. If using those systems turns your building into something like a climate–controlled tomb, however, then you will have exchanged one kind of discomfort for another. Using a heat recovery ventilator allows you to use your forced air systems as much as you want, while still receiving a steady supply of fresh air. You can have your proverbial cake and eat it too, as it were.
